〒604-0911 Kyoto, Nakagyo Ward, Shimizucho, 362 ジョイビル 5f01 / ABOUT THE PLACE
Canneles de Bordeaux is presented as the café’s signature. The menu describes a crisp exterior and a moist centre, scented with rum and vanilla. Diners who have tried it also mention the contrast in texture and those fragrant notes, making it an appealing treat alongside coffee or tea.
For a change from the classic, the menu also offers cannelés with walnuts and chocolate, and a cinnamon version. The walnut variety combines chopped walnuts with chocolate, with the walnuts bringing a pleasantly bittersweet, toasty quality. The cinnamon cannelé is described as releasing its aroma from the first bite. You can enjoy the familiar crisp shell and moist centre with chocolate and walnuts, or choose the cinnamon’s fragrant warmth; ordering different varieties makes for an easy comparison.
Pavlova is another highlight, layering meringue with cream and fruit. One diner who chose the fig version enjoyed the combination of a large, crisp meringue, unsweetened cream, fruit and walnuts. The menu also lists strawberry pavlova, made with crisp meringue, unsweetened whipped cream, fresh strawberries and house-made strawberry sauce. A diner who tried the autumn chestnut version reported that it was generously sized and that the pairing of meringue and cream stood out.
Some diners pair the fruit pavlova with iced chai. The tea selection includes Earl Grey, Bolero—described as fragrant with flowers and fruit—and Assam, recommended for milk tea. The range makes it easy to choose a different aromatic note to accompany something sweet.
The café is on the 5 floor of a building, and several visitors have mentioned enjoying tea by the window while looking out over the city. Some come on their own for a cannelé and a drink. It’s a welcoming choice when you want to make a sweet treat the focus of a quiet break.
